Hey docs,
Just a short note... I'm reactivating my blog so that I can keep those people who are truly interested and want to learn from me in the know.
It used to be and still is in some chiropractic circles especially with the so called chiropractic coaches, especially for the guys who haven't been in practice for years if not decades, that to be successful and make huge money as a chiropractor, get patients who have great insurance! Then Bill the hell out of it and wait for the mailman to bring you checks! NOT!
Listen to me... Really listen.
There are a lot of chiropractic coaches, consultants and cheerleaders who are NOT in practice at all and they DON'T know what the PULSE of practice is or what's actually going on in our profession.
The insurance companies are slick, very slick and they are always trying to figure out how to "stick it" to doctors, all doctors, and especially to chiropractors.
They can't get chiropractors these days on "insurance fraud" so what are they to do?
Well, the insurance companies new strategy to get chiropractors is to "audit" them for past years services and then "charge" the chiropractor with a request to return monies paid to him for prior years services because it was "not medically necessary".
Some of the guys who have been hit with these billing attacks from insurance companies have reported that they have been forced to pay back monies paid from services all the way back to the year 2000.
So, what will happen is that the insurance company will request notes, records and all information that you have available for a certain patient for a 3 year period for example, they request records for years 2000, 2001, and 2002.
The problem is that we are now in year 2013, and how many of us have records of any kind for year 2000?
Some of these guys have been forced to pay thousands and thousands of dollars and even though some guys have fought back, you as a chiropractor don't have the resources, money or lawyers that the insurance companies have in their coffers.
I was recently talking to a chiropractor in Ohio who only found out that he was broke when he was shopping at Costco and then when he was checking out and his ATM card didn't work for payment.
So, he hurries home to check his bank account only to find to his horror that all of his money, all of it is gone, and gone forever.
What happened to this poor guy is that in addition to being audited by insurance companies, he was audited by Medicare and medicare assessed him a bill of $786,000 that they wanted back because of his purported failure to properly document care necessity and that his record keeping was not in 100% in compliance.
"But PHIL. I have the most sophisticated software in the world and that it makes all my notes and I'll never not be in compliant".
You really think that? LOL
Listen, cowboys, medicare is just like the insurance companies in that they don't want to pay out money for services for any doctors, let alone "Chiropractors"? Ugghhhh
They hate us, they really do.
The Ohio doc ended up losing his money, his farm and they attached his house, and he's in a world of grief and stress and because it's the government, you can't fight them. You might think you can but you really can't.
You want to sleep better at night?
Go cash, all the way.
Because of the bull and all the baloney that goes with insurance and medicare, it's just not worth it.
The Innate In Me... Blesses The Innate In You... Peace! :)

The Magic Answer
I get calls every week from chiropractors from all over the U.S. who are seeking the "Magic Answer" to their practice problems, and believe that they will get that elusive "magic answer" from so practice management guru or company.
Now, if you line up ALL the practice management guys and really see what they are selling, doing, and promoting....guess what?....They are ALL selling, doing and promoting the exact same thing:
Exam, Consultation, X-rays, Don't Adjust on the 1st visit, and then on the 2nd visit, attempt to sell them on a "corrective care" plan for thousands of dollars. Now this is a quick fix for cash in the "now", but just like a heroin addict, it's a quick fix. What happens in a year, and most often sooner than that year?....The patient is like so done with you, with chiropractic, with the year plan, and can't wait to escape their prison of "corrective care".
Now, I used to do the whole "corrective care" model and had some success with it, but it was an ongoing nightmare of repeated selling of chiropractic plans, and patients always coming and going, and I just got burned out. There had to be a better way?...
Well, the PCT Open Practice Model of chiropractic practice is the ultimate practice model for any chiropractor today, and what is surprising is that most of the old time chiropractors who are caught up in the per visit charge model can't always see the beauty of this practice model.
Our next training is coming up in November on the 7th and 8th, and I would encourage you to sign up soon, as seats are going fast.
In January it will be our 3rd year anniversary of starting our trainings and seminars, and in only 3 short years, we are quickly becoming the choice of coaches by chiropractors.
And always remember....if you take care of God's people.....God will take care of you!

Stop listening to the Naysayers!
If you listen to most people, including chiropractors, they will all tell you how bad the economy is and how bad everything else is too....don't listen to them!
Now, if things are bad...does it make any sense that you'd raise people's taxes?....
Does it make any sense that you'd take advice from someone who is not successful? or has a successful practice?
Now, my practice is going full force and I get new signups every week, but I work at it... I don't rest on my laurels... and unlike most chiropractors.... I work... and I work hard....but I work smart...
Now, people are people...and people will still sign up for chiropractic care...if it makes sense to them... and if you have a fee system that makes sense....
Now...does any of this corrective care baloney..make any sense?... not to me...and for most people who do decide to sign up and pay upfront for expensive care...are usually gone after their sentence is served.
My good friend, Gay Gary... ( I call him that to differentiate him from Gary the dentist, Gary the cop, I guess, I could call him Gary the Chiropractor, but we already have a Gary the Chiropractor, So, Gay Gary describes him well)
Well, Gay Gary is always talking about how bad things are... his practice sucks...his life sucks....his house sucks...he's never grateful for anything at all, and to do my program, he won't do it...why?...because it involves work.
Gay Gary actually gets pissed off when people come into his office for an adjustment, and he has to get off the couch in his office while reading his favorite novel to go adjust them.
I'm always telling Gary...If you just work, and be Principled...you won't have these problems in practice... and why are you always so negative?...it's probably because of the people he hangs out with... I guess If I was 62 years old, and had no practice, and no significant other, I'd be pissed too...NOT!...
I always say this... if you aren't in jail, prison...or dead...life is good!... and remember... Scott Peterson...he'd trade places with any of his in a heart beat...including Gay Gary...
So, stop listening to the naysayers....today!

CALIFORNIA BOARD TO MAKE THINGS WORSE!
California Board is making some serious changes to our practice style.
In California right now, we are only required to have 12 hours of re-licensing, and the re-licensing can be done with an independent provider, which means that you can do it outside of the school.
Now, for 2009, the board is going to increase our re-licensing hours from 12 to 24 hours and all licensing will have to be done thru the so called chiropractic colleges, and the course fees will go from like $149 now for 12 hours to like $800 for 24 hours of re licensing thru the schools.
Here's the worse part.... at the end of the 24 hours...the chiropractor will have to take a test to pass with 80% or the chiropractor will not get the credits, and the chiropractor will be required to carry, 1 million, 3 million malpractice insurance or you'll not get licensed....can you believe that?....
Personally, I don't carry malpractice anymore, because it's a scam. I used to carry it for over 10 years, and the one time that I needed the help from my insurance carrier, they stalled me, and gave me the song and dance...."Well, Dr. did you take the patient's blood pressure?".... "Did you take the patient's vitals?"...no.... and my so called insurance carrier was supposedly a malpractice carrier for straight chiropractors.
Well, let me tell you this...if this happens.... I'll probably not be renewing my license and I'll just keep doing what I'm doing now, and call myself a neuropractor or something like that....
It's stupid that I'd put myself thru all of that, because I have very, very little insurance and for P.I.'s, I'll just refer them out.
So, our board sucks, and then they still want to be more and more medical.
